Australian Cogeneration Association

The Australian Cogeneration Association (ACA) is an independent, non-profit, industry association. It was formed in 1993 to actively encourage the growth of cogeneration and represent the interests of cogenerators and distributed generators. ACA represents leading players in the energy sector in Australia with over 100 member organisations. New members are welcome.

The Association is going through a significant and very positive phase of re-positioning and refocussing. In line with our growing and diversifying member base, whose interests we have represented for some time, we are moving to formally represent this broader group of power producers that share many common aims and face common barriers to success in the National Electricity Market (NEM). As such, we particularly represent power producers involved in cogeneration, waste-to-energy, renewables and distributed generation.

Companies using these kinds of power production include Alcoa, AMP, Australian Paper, BHP Steel, BP Refining, Bridgestone, Cabot Australasia, Cadbury Schweppes, Crown Casino, Energy Brix, Esso-BHP, Flicklea Fabrics, ICI, Kodak, Origina Energy, Penrice Soda Products, San Remo Macaroni, Shell Refining, Unichema, Visy Paper, Western Mining Corporation and Worsley Alumina. As well, a number of sugar milling co-operatives, hospitals, educational institutions, recreational facilities, office complexes, meatworks, sewerage treatment plants and land fill gas sites use these types of power production. New projects are also being commissioned as viability increases.

The Association works with policy makers and opinion leaders to stimulate project development. As we progress towards energy market reform outcomes that should result in effective market-based measures that will reward high efficiency, low emission power production, much has been achieved recently including establishment of industry development programs. These include: the Two Per Cent Renewables Initiative, the Greenhouse Gas Abatement Program, the Renewable Energy Action Agenda and the Queensland Clean Energy Strategy.

Our members enjoy a range of benefits to facilitate their entry to, and effective involvement in, market development opportunities.
