In the medium to long term reedbeds are more cost-effective than any other treatment systems. They are robust and require little maintenance, use little power and are environmentally sustainable.

Reedbeds mimic natural wetlands in that they are passive systems which use both physical and biological filtration – plants, worms, microbes and aerobic and anaerobic bacteria, as well as gravel filtration and settling.

Reedbed wastewater systems are a long-term solution that eliminates the need for an ongoing maintenance contract, with any maintenance required able to be done by the owner. Reedbeds provide the clearest water for the lowest energy input, with low ongoing costs. They use natural processes to create a natural living system and allow the reuse of nutrients onsite in gardens and orchards. The systems are sustainable since they improve with age.
