Ausmelt Limited Ausmelt is a leading international supplier of top submerged lance (TSL)
smelting technology to producers of copper, lead, tin, nickel, platinum
group metals (PGMs), zinc and ferrous metals around the world. TSL smelting
technology is also used to reclaim metal values from various wastes, leaving
behind an environmentally benign, compact solid. Twenty-four commercial
Ausmelt furnaces have been installed in nine countries, with a further
three projects ongoing. Ausmelt’s TSL technology enables excellent process control, flexibility and cost benefits. It can be used for processing large annual throughputs of up to a million tonnes of concentrates or processing at a much smaller scale and is rapidly gaining acceptance as the “technology of choice” for brown and greenfield pyrometallurgical projects.
The TSL technology is an intense, energy-efficient bath smelting system. The key feature of this technology is the use of a non-consumable submerged lance that injects air, oxygen and fuel directly into the bath to promote rapid reactions. The technology is used commercially to produce non-ferrous metals, including copper, lead, tin, zinc, PGMs, nickel and ferrous products from a range of feed materials including concentrates, secondary materials, residues and drosses, materials that contain precious metal, process by-products and municipal waste materials
