Environment Equipment is the manufacturer of Rota-Loo composting toilet systems which are designed for both domestic and public amenity use. It is a privately owned Australian company established in 1974.

The reason for its success is that the system is made to work as passively as possible. It is designed with the user in mind and draws on the latest research information from around the world.

The Rota-Loo system takes its name from the sturdy internal turntable which safely sits inside the polyethelene outer case of the Rota-Loo. The turntable rotates on a ball and socket joint. Sitting on the turntable are a number of wedge shaped, removable composting bins, each with a handle for easy handling. In the bottom of each bin are a series of channels and drainage holes for liquid to seep through into the outer tank where it is evaporated, whilst warm air flows around and through the bin so that aerobic bacteria can quickly decompose the organic matter. When the first bin is full, the turntable is simply rotated and the next bin is in place to receive waste.

The contents of the first bin can now compost away without any fresh material being added. Eventually this bin will rotate its way back to the first position (after all the bins have been filled) and its contents will have fully composted and be ready for turning into the soil. To empty, open the front cover, take the bin out and turn it upside down into a shallow hole in the ground. Hose the bin out, put in a few woodchips, put the bin back inside the unit and the system is ready to start all over again.
