Flovac Systems has had over 20 years’ experience in the design, supply and maintenance of vacuum sewer systems and was instrumental in the development of the National Vacuum Sewerage code put out by Water Services Australia (WSAA) in 2004. Flovac’s vacuum interface valve is recognised as being the most technologically advanced in the world and its strong research and development culture has led to many advances in the industry.

In Australia, at least half of the vacuum projects have been in government-funded small town sewerage schemes replacing aging septic tank systems in places such as Kurnell (NSW), South Guildford (WA), Bundeena (NSW), Geraldton (WA), Machans Beach (Cairns) and Hat Head (NSW). There have also been a number of developer projects including Harrington Waters (NSW), Pacific Harbour (Qld), Couran Cove Eco Resort (Qld), Marina Hindmarsh (SA) and Exmouth (WA). Flovac has also been involved in a number of industrial and commercial sites.

Vacuum systems are considered to be an ideal solution in environmentally sensitive areas and areas that are difficult to sewer. Shallow pipework, a lack of sewage leaks or infiltration into the network, less use of power and water, and ease of maintenance have led to a wide acceptance of the technology.

The Flovac Vacuum Interface Valve conforms to the Australian Standard for Interface Valves (AS 4310 -2004). It is a 90 mm valve that establishes a link between the vacuum network and the gravity connection from the house. Flovac also supplies the vacuum pump station electrical and mechanical components. These can be large enough to handle a town of 5,000 houses or small enough to be deployed to mining camps, marinas or concerts.

Flovac is also the supplier of the Jets vacuum toilet, which uses less than 1 litre of water per flush, saving large quantities of water in office buildings or residential areas. Vacuum becomes an ideal solution for the separation of black and grey water.
